sales too land a significant point of difference for ExCeL, compared to other venues, as it enhances exhibitors’ displays and means they no longer have to install additional lighting on their stands to supplement poor ambient lighting.”
- Brian Cole, Operations Director, ExCel London
The ExCel center in London needs a lot of light. The system has to maintain a pleasant atmosphere for the 4.1 million exhibitors and visitors it receives every year. However, the old system, which was 13 years old, consisted of 2,045 high-bay luminaires using 400w high pressure sodium lamps.
Because these lamps could not be controlled individually from the ground, maintenance workers would frequently have to disconnect them manually. “Given that the luminaires are mounted at a height of 10 metres, this was time-consuming and expensive”, explains Operations Director Brian Cole. “Frequent lamp replacement was a further burden on our maintenance resources”.
The old lights were replaced with 2,145 GentleSpace LED luminaires. These innovative high-bay lighting devices create a welcoming ambience with bright, clean light. They are operated by a DALI control system, so they can be dimmed or switched off from a central PC or hand-held tablet device. The new exhibition lighting makes the venue more attractive to exhibitors, and is saving time and money.
The new energy-efficient exhibition lighting has created electricity savings of 60% for ExCel London.
